Types of Jobs Available:

The following are some of the types of jobs now available in Saskatchewan for people who want to work with people with developmental disabilities. In most cases, a valid drivers license is an asset or is necessary.  Please note that these are job summaries and each employer has its own particular job descriptions.

Job TitleOverview
Direct Support Worker Through person-centered programs, assists and supports adults in making choices in their life to maximize their potential and quality of life.  Provides care and training to individuals with developmental disabilities in their home, day programs, vocational centre, community, work and/or social environments.  Assists individuals to work, appointments, and recreational outings.
Supervisor Monitors, coaches, and, at times, hires Direct Support Workers.  Monitors to ensure that the goals and objectives of people with developmental disabilities are being addressed and assists Direct Support Workers in their duties.
House Manager Oversees the operation of a home across all shifts.  Responsible for all support staff scheduling and time keeping.  Ensures home is clean, home-like, and well maintained.  Provides regular support and supervision to support staff. 
Program Coordinator Develops, implements, and evaluates programs designed to maximize an individual’s potential and quality of life.  Facilitates assessments, personal program plans, and programs to help in developmental, behavioural, medical, and social needs of participants.  Some supervisory duties may be involved, which can include training of staff on the delivery of programs.
Employment Support Worker Provides support to participants in finding and maintaining employment within the community.  Helps individuals on the job to increase the likelihood of successful placement and employer satisfaction.
Office Administrator Performs reception and clerical duties that includes word processing, filing, and payroll.  Sets up and maintains office filing system.  Assists Chief Executive Officer in Board of Directors records and preparing of agency financial information.
